Since 1948 IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) has been providing young science, engineering, technology and applied arts students from around the world with paid, course-related work experience. Similarly, the programme has been a source of high quality trainees for companies and institutions in more than 90 countries worldwide.
So, students in Scotland… what are your plans for 2019?
You could do a paid industry placement lasting from 6 to 52 weeks in one of 92 countries. From electronics in Japan to earthquake detection technology in Colombia, an IAESTE placement is a guaranteed way to boost your career.
It’s also a hassle-free way to experience life abroad. You’ll be supported by the IAESTE team every step of the way: from choosing an employer and applying for visas, to finding accommodation and settling into your new country.

"Taking an IAESTE internship in The University of Edinburgh was the best decision I have made so far. I have made friends for life from all over the world with whom I explored Scotland’s beauty, while upgrading my professional skills and gaining practical experience in one of the most prestigious universities. I had great joy to be a part of Dr Harvey’s research group, where we focused on developing ultrathin membranes for efficient carbon capture. Dr Harvey was very supportive and inspiring, I have learnt a lot from him and I am looking forward to collaborating with him in the future again.
"I liked Edinburgh from the very first day. Its natural beauty and architecture are one of a kind. It was my home for two months, and it would not be possible to feel at home if it were not for LC members, who met me at the airport on the first day and said goodbye with tears in their eyes on the very last. We took many trips all over Scotland, but one that will always have special place in my heart is trip to Isle of Skye – amazing group of people hiking in breathtaking places, singing, dancing ceilidh and eating haggis. I wish I could go back!
"IAESTE internship gave me opportunity to learn more about myself, grow as a person and overcome fears of unknown, learn how to embrace adventure and decide to become a young researcher. My English knowledge and presentation skills have greatly improved, and everything I have learned from Dr Harvey I try to apply every day in my current work."
